Let’s Hear It For the Girls

Atlanta Jewish Times, June 27-July 3, 2008

It’s no secret that women have the primary responsibility for keeping the family schedule organized.  Carpool schedules, play dates, teacher conferences and doctor visits for the kids, to name a few, and social engagements for the adults.  No one would get anywhere if it weren’t for the ladies’ day planner or refrigerator calendar. But it’s summertime, and even though camp carpools are rolling, maybe there’s a little extra time for mom – or any woman in the community – to do something for herself.

The Atlanta Scholars Kollel Women’s Division, Bena, offers summer classes through July 20.  A range of topics include saving the Jewish people, laws of kashrut (kosher), giving charity, the Book of Lamentations, why do bad things happen to good people?, and more.

The sessions kick off with a Shabbat shalos seudot (third meal) at a private residence in Toco Hills, 6 p.m., Saturday, June 28th.  Most classes at Congregation Beth Jacob in Toco Hills. Lamentations series at Congregation Anshei Chesed in Sandy Springs, 10 am. Sundays, July 6, 13 and 20.  Local instructors: Miriam Feldman, Rivka Lipschutz, Naama Parnes and Rabbis Yechezkel Freundlich and Doniel Pransky.  Also, Rabbi and Bayla Jacobovitz of Detroit and Jill Kaisman of New Jersey.

All classes: $10 per session, $54 unlimited sessions.  Limited private consultations, $25 per hours.
